Maximilian Kolbe Foundation

Founded in 1982, the non-profit Foundation “Maximilian Kolbe Foundation” was built in Mississauga, near the church of St. Maximilian Kolbe, Polish Cultural Centre John Paul II; it’s the largest of its kind in Canada Polonia center. It started its work in 1994 in order to maintain and develop the Polish tradition among Canadians of Polish descent as well as to serve all residents of Toronto and surrounding areas. The center offers programs for cultural, educational and recreational facilities as well as rooms for rent, which is used for business purposes, art, sport and meetings of interest.

While the main thrust of the Maximilian Kolbe Foundation has been directed towards the development and operation of the John Paul II Centre, in 1998 its members decided to organize and sponsor the First Canadian Chopin Competition in the fall of the following year. The event was very successful. The Centre is issuing quarterly bulletin Centrum. Centrum is bilingual, in English and Polish. The bulletin presents articles on current issues, events, and performers. Also, it includes a calendar of future events.
